Te Ara Paerangi Future Pathways Green Paper on the future of New Zealand’s research system
In October 2021, MBIE released the Te Ara Paerangi Future Pathways Green Paper on the future of New Zealand’s research system. Release of the Green Paper is the first step of the Te Ara Paerangi programme which seeks to create a modern future-focussed research system for New Zealand. MBIE is seeking input through an inclusive, deliberative, and open approach, drawing on the collective wisdom of researchers to understand areas for improvement. The discussion is focussed on six interconnected themes: research priorities, funding for research, how the system responds to and supports Te Tiriti and mātauranga Māori, the research workforce, institutions and research infrastructure. In this presentation, we will outline the context for the Green Paper, run through the themes with an eResearch lens, and outline the next steps in the policy process, with time for questions and comments.
