My Leadership Journey: Adventures from the American Midwest & Southeast to Wellington

Through a series of personal stories accumulated from 20+ years supporting academic science and engineering, this talk will encourage participants to think broadly about how HPC and research computing has evolved and what capabilities might we build together in order to support eResearch going forward.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Neil Bright is the HPC Operations manager at NIWA and NeSI. He recently moved to Wellington from America after 23 years at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia. While at Georgia Tech, Neil has been a Research Scientist, a systems administrator, and most recently Associate Director for Research Cyberinfrastructure managing all aspects of the Institutes’ HPC program. Neil served as Secretary of the Coalition for Advanced Scientific Computation (CASC) in 2017 & 2018, and Vice Chair in 2019 & 2020. Neil also served as the Chair of the Linux Clusters Institute from 20217-2021. Neil holds degrees in computer science from Michigan Technological University and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and is a graduate of the MOR Associates IT Leaders Program.
