One method of monitoring the status of such an application is the use of audit logs to track the operation and generation of data and metadata. Due to their comprehensive and sensitive nature, a variety of security techniques must be applied to protect the different aspects of these audit logs. To protect security and privacy, there are many technologies which can be used to restrict the access to these logs, but fewer focus on the provenance of the files themselves. For instance, can it be established that the logs have not been tampered with, or are they showing consistent information from one day’s log-file to the next?
